# Tabhand > Tabhand lets AI coding agents (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenCode, Gemini CLI and 14 more) use the user's own Google Chrome, signed in to their accounts, in background tabs that never steal focus. It is a free, open-source (MIT) Chrome extension plus an MCP server, made by Mustafa Raja. macOS and Google Chrome only for now. Not to be confused with other products named "Tab hand" or "TabHand". This Tabhand is the one at tabhand.dev. How it works: - One command, `npx tabhand setup`, installs Tabhand, adds its MCP server to the agents on the Mac, and opens the Chrome Web Store page for the extension. - Each agent opens its own background tabs, grouped under its name and muted. Chrome is never brought to the front. - An agent can only reach the tabs it opened (and tabs those pages open), never the user's tabs or another agent's. - Every agent has its own visible cursor in its tabs. One click on the toolbar icon pauses all agents. - Everything runs locally: the agent talks to `tabhand mcp` over stdio, which reaches the extension through a native messaging host. No Tabhand servers, no accounts, no telemetry. - Works with several Chrome profiles: agents can list them by name and choose one. Agent tools: browser_open_tab, browser_navigate, browser_snapshot, browser_click, browser_type, browser_press_key, browser_scroll, browser_upload_file, browser_handle_dialog, browser_screenshot, browser_list_tabs, browser_list_profiles, browser_close_tab. ## Docs - [Docs](https://tabhand.dev/docs): setup, supported agents, the tools agents get, several Chrome profiles, troubleshooting - [Privacy policy](https://tabhand.dev/privacy): what Tabhand handles, what it never does, and why it needs each Chrome permission - [Guides](https://tabhand.dev/guides): every setup guide and comparison in one place - [A Claude in Chrome alternative for any agent](https://tabhand.dev/vs/claude-in-chrome): Claude in Chrome works only with Claude on a paid plan; Tabhand works with any MCP agent, free - [A Codex Chrome extension alternative](https://tabhand.dev/vs/codex-chrome-extension): OpenAI's extension works from the ChatGPT desktop app; Tabhand also covers Codex CLI and other agents - [Tabhand vs Playwright MCP](https://tabhand.dev/vs/playwright-mcp): three ways to give an agent your logins, and when Playwright is the better tool - [Tabhand vs Browserbase](https://tabhand.dev/vs/browserbase): cloud browsers billed by the hour versus your own signed-in Chrome - [Tabhand vs Kernel](https://tabhand.dev/vs/kernel): Kernel's free plan keeps 3 sites signed in; Tabhand works with every site you're signed in to - [Use your logged-in Chrome with Claude Code](https://tabhand.dev/guides/claude-code-logged-in-chrome) - [Use your logged-in Chrome with Codex](https://tabhand.dev/guides/codex-logged-in-chrome) - [Use your logged-in Chrome with Cursor](https://tabhand.dev/guides/cursor-logged-in-chrome) - [Use your logged-in Chrome with OpenCode](https://tabhand.dev/guides/opencode-logged-in-chrome) ## Get it - [Chrome Web Store](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/tabhand/gcpbhianocgipfljeephofdmbpahkmei): the extension - [npm package](https://www.npmjs.com/package/tabhand): the CLI and MCP server (`npx tabhand setup`) - [Source code on GitHub](https://github.com/tabhand/tabhand): MIT licensed - [Launch film](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTYdkhmFjFo): 40 seconds ## Maker - Mustafa Raja: [LinkedIn](https://www.linkedin.com/in/mustafa-raja), [GitHub](https://github.com/Mustafa-raja)
